We entered the healthcare profession to help people . . .

Everyone in the healthcare professions chose the job – not because it was easy. Not because it automatically gave you status, money, or power. We all took the long, hard road of college, professional school, hospital training, and beyond. We sacrificed our time, our money, and gave our very best for one reason. And what was that reason? We wanted to help people.

We did without many things to achieve the position we wanted to fill. We did without creature comforts for years on end. We drove an old beat-up car; we wore the same clothes. We did without much that most people take for granted. Why did we do without to accomplish something way off in the future? The reason we worked hard in school and post-graduate training programs was to help people.

Somewhere along the way, helping people got lost.
